Be Flat Like Reflections

about

This was one of the first songs that I finished for this album. Early on, I was in a very "dancey" place and the songs really show it. Constant four on the floor, singable melody and overall easy-going feel. The song is all about a back and forth relationship that sways between two people trying to avoid each other but eventually realizing that this resistance is constantly overcome by wanting.

lyrics

I can't - never mind, I won't
Let the fear involve itself into the plans
I said - or was it - I sang
It wax lyrical, I'm not so sure you heard
I'll surely live to voice complaints
Involving you, involving me
The knives are out before we know
The fiction ends, as fiction goes

What's worth saving?
We may never know
Until we cave in from its overflow

As I recall, this all resolved
We never mind the never-was
And then we plead for longer nights
A portrait of the quiet life
And I wonder where you've been ever since

What's worth saving
We may never know
Until we cave in from its overflow
As for hiding
We beg to be found
What's worth saving always comes around
